Thirty-three students died in Virgina yesterday. There are thousands of news reports on the internet, tv and radio. It’s odd, so much publicity for 33 people, what about the hundreds that die everyday. It’s interesting what the public chooses to see, and what it ignores.

Twisted

There are wars in: Pakistan, Central Africa (actually 2 here but the civil war just finished), Sudan, Iraq, Israel, Lebannon, Palestine, Mexico, and Somalia. More than 33 people died in each of these places. Furthermore since to make the comparisson fair. Since it was 33 students died then lets account of the children that die in these countries on a regular basis…

  • 28 Million children die from easy curable diseases each year (thats a little over 76712 children a day!)
  • 17 million children die from malnutrition and starvation each year
  • Of the children that die under age of five:

    • In Kenya 35% die of aids
    • In Namibia 48% die of aids
    • In South Africa 50% die of aids
    • In Zimbabwe 50% die of aids
    • In Botswana 64% die of aids

I don’t know. I mean it wasn’t my son or daughter that got killed, nor was it my friend or relative, so you have to understand that my perspective is definately a biased one, if at all. i think this all amounts to more than 33 people dying and yet no one says anything. No one acknowledges the struggles those families have to go through. Basically 30 people died yesterday from a deadly rampage, and yet over 30 million die each year in events such as this. These people are never recognized. Ironic eh?
