"The River"

As I walk through the valley,
of the shadow of LA.
The footsteps that were next to me,
have gone their separate ways.
I’ve seen enough now,
to know that beautiful things,
don’t always stay that way.
I’ve done enough now,
to know this beautiful place,
isn’t everything they say.

CHORUS
I heard that evil comes disguised,
Like a city of angels,
I’m walking towards the light.

Baptized in the river,
I’ve seen a vision of my life,
And I wanna be delivered.
In the city was a sinner,
I’ve done a lot of things wrong,
But I swear I’m a believer
Like the prodigal son,
I was out on my own,
Now I’m trying to find my way back home.
Baptized in the river,
I’m delivered.
I’m delivered.

You’re from a small town,
you’re gonna grow up fast,
underneath these lights.
Down in Hollywood on the boulevard,
the dead come back to life.
To the praying Mother,
The worried Father,
Let your children go.
If they come back they’ll come on stronger,
and if they don’t you’ll know.

CHORUS

I confess I’m a sinner,
I’ve seen a vision of my life,
And I wanna be delivered.

This reminds me a dear friend…

Twice

I took my heart in my hand
(O my love, O my love),
I said: Let me fall or stand,
    Let me live or die,
But this once hear me speak
(O my love, O my love)—
Yet a woman’s words are weak;
    You should speak, not I.

You took my heart in your hand
    With a friendly smile,
With a critical eye you scann’d,
    Then set it down,
And said, ‘It is still unripe,
    Better wait awhile;
Wait while the skylarks pipe,
    Till the corn grows brown.’
As you set it down it broke—
    Broke, but I did not wince;
I smiled at the speech you spoke,
    At your judgement I heard:
But I have not often smiled
    Since then, nor question’d since,
Nor cared for cornflowers wild,
Nor sung with the singing bird.

I take my heart in my hand,
O my God, O my God,
My broken heart in my hand:
    Thou hast seen, judge Thou.
My hope was written on sand,
O my God, O my God:
Now let thy judgement stand—
    Yea, judge me now.

This contemn’d of a man,
    This marr’d one heedless day,
This heart take thou to scan
    Both within and without:
Refine with fire its gold,
    Purge Thou its dross away—
Yea, hold it in Thy hold,
Whence none can pluck it out.

I take my heart in my hand—
I shall not die, but live—
Before Thy face I stand;
    I, for Thou callest such:
All that I have I bring,
All that I am I give,
Smile Thou and I shall sing,
    But shall not question much.

People always say, "It’s greener on the otherside of the fence," my philosphy is "Buy a fricken sprinkler!" Meaning, if it is so great on the otherside of the fence, it could be because your not doing anything about your situation to better it. People may not be the cause of their situation, but I should at least be in control of it.

"The positive aspect…is that no matter where you come from, you can break out of that. If your mentality is right, if your drive is right, you can break out of that cycle."

Thirty-three students died in Virgina yesterday. There are thousands of news reports on the internet, tv and radio. It’s odd, so much publicity for 33 people, what about the hundreds that die everyday. It’s interesting what the public chooses to see, and what it ignores.

Twisted

There are wars in: Pakistan, Central Africa (actually 2 here but the civil war just finished), Sudan, Iraq, Israel, Lebannon, Palestine, Mexico, and Somalia. More than 33 people died in each of these places. Furthermore since to make the comparisson fair. Since it was 33 students died then lets account of the children that die in these countries on a regular basis…

  • 28 Million children die from easy curable diseases each year (thats a little over 76712 children a day!)
  • 17 million children die from malnutrition and starvation each year
  • Of the children that die under age of five:

    • In Kenya 35% die of aids
    • In Namibia 48% die of aids
    • In South Africa 50% die of aids
    • In Zimbabwe 50% die of aids
    • In Botswana 64% die of aids

I don’t know. I mean it wasn’t my son or daughter that got killed, nor was it my friend or relative, so you have to understand that my perspective is definately a biased one, if at all. i think this all amounts to more than 33 people dying and yet no one says anything. No one acknowledges the struggles those families have to go through. Basically 30 people died yesterday from a deadly rampage, and yet over 30 million die each year in events such as this. These people are never recognized. Ironic eh?
